During our discussion we had to answer some questions on the choice of the future profession. We can give an example of such conversation.
Ilya and Vera will role-play it.
- Ilya, have you made up your mind what to be in the future ?
- No, I have not yet.
- When did you begin making plans for the future ?
- I began doing it at the age of 10 or 11.
- Have you changed your
mind since that time ?
- Certainly, I have.
- What did you want to become ?
- I wanted to become a doctor.
- Why ?
- I thought it was a noble profession. I was good at biology. I wanted to help people who had problems with health. I knew that a doctor should be kind and attentive to people, responsible and reasonable, honest and prudent.
- Do you understand that the time to choose your future profession has come ?
- Yes, I do. But it is not an easy task to make the right choice of a job.
- What did your wishes depend on ?
- It depended upon my parents, my friends, my parents’ friends, my teachers, of course/
- How can it be ?
- It is up the personality of the teacher. If the physics teacher is skilled and clever I wanted to deal with physics and to become an engineer, and so on.
- Now it seems to me you have already decided what to do. You’d like to be an engineer. Am I right ?
- You see, I have not decided yet. I’m not sure. I like the profession of a programmer too. I’m interested in computers. We are living in the age of information. Programmers are in great need now. So, I’m not sure yet what profession to choose.
- Well, I wish you good luck. Try to do your best to develop good traits in yourself. And you’ll be good at your profession.
Ученик: Thank you. Do you want to ask them any questions ?
- My question is to Ilya. What factors do you take into account choosing a future career?
- In my opinion, important factors are job satisfaction, money and friendly atmosphere.
- What personal qualities should a person develop and be good at in order to be successful in your work ?
- It depends on particular field of work. But everybody prefers to work with hard-working and sensible person.
Ученик: we also have written two essays about the professions of a programmer and economist. They are on the blackboard and you can read them here. Thank you. Any questions ? (Приложение 5, 6 )
- Do you find the tips which are below the list of questions for interview useful ?
- Oh, yes. They give applicants some advice how to behave during interview.
- I have a question to Nina. Which job may suit your personal qualities?
- Well, I’ll have to think about that. In my case several professions suit me. I’d rather choose the profession of a sales manager.
4. Презентация проекта 3-ей группы.
Учитель: Now, group № 3 will give a short presentation of their ideas according to the problem of choosing the future occupation. Do, please. And the other groups are supposed to ask at least two questions.
Ученик: Everything that my classmates say is really true. We agree entirely here. But we can add some more ideas which may also help young people to find a good job. We think if a person is looking for a job he / she can read some advertisements which give special information about different occupations. Participants of our group present some examples of such advertisements. They are on the blackboard. (Приложение 7)
Ученик читает объявления (2-3 по выбору учащегося).
They also give job seekers the requirements for these jobs and education they need.
Then during our group discussion we have learned to write Resume (Приложение 8) and a letter of application. Resume is a written information about your personality and educational and professional facts. Here you can see Katya’s Resume and Ilya’s letter of application. (Приложение 9). Ученик зачитывает их.
Учитель: Thank you/ are there any questions ?
- What kind of job do you want, Andrey?
- A computer operator. I’m interested in it for a long time. More than that it suits my abilities.
- Have you decided what university you want to apply?
- Yes, Demidov University in Yaroslavl.
5. Презентация проекта 4-ой группы.
Учитель: Now, it’s your turn to present the project. You are the last in our group. I give the floor to Katya, please.
Ученица: To sum up everything we discussed in our group work we decided to make a booklet “ The ways we choose”. It looks like that. (Приложение 10)
In this booklet one can some questionnaires: “Where Can You Work?” and “What Would You Like To Be?” They can help him / her to define a professional field. There are some pieces of advice what category suits someone’s personal interests and which profession to choose. The booklet contains “The List of The Most Prestigious Areas of Professional Activity and Jobs”/ We think that they are Marketing and Managements, Finance, Computer Technology, Tourism< Service and Justice. (Ученица зачитывает список профессий, относящихся к престижным видам деятельности).
Then we’ve made a diagram “Job Requirements” and “ A List of Skills and Abilities” which are needed to be successful in the job of a programmer, a doctor, a Cawyer, a guide, an economist. In this booklet one can find information about spheres of education, Labour market and Labour conditions. It also includes A List of Questions for the first interview and advice what a person should do or should not do during the interview/ We think that this booklet will help to make the right choice of the future job to those who is not sure what profession to choose.

6. Заключительное слово учителя. Подведение итогов урока.
Well, I’d like to thank you for your work. You worked hard and showed the results of your creative activity presenting your projects. You offered many ways that can help young people to choose a good job. Besides, you practiced speaking and writing English, you exchanged your ideas trying to solve the problem what is important in choosing the right profession. I wish you to be successful in your future job.
